Obituary

Patrick T. Matthews, 77, of Oswego, passed away peacefully on October 5, 2024, at Seneca Hill Manor. Born in Baldwinsville, New York, he was the son of the late George and Theresa (Barnhill) Matthews.

Patrick proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps as a Corporal from July 1965 to May 1969. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the Vietnam Service Medal.

He worked at the Oswego County Sheriff's Department as a Sheriff's Deputy for several years, then went on to work at Niagara Mohawk where he retired as a dispatcher. After he retired, he worked as a Bailiff with Scriba Town Court.

Pat had a gift for laughter and spreading joy - he never met a stranger. He found great fulfillment in woodworking, writing poetry, and playing the piano and harmonica. Pat also appreciated Native American History and culture.

Patrick was predeceased by his wife, Janet Rossiter-Matthews, and his siblings George Matthews Jr., Wayne Byers, Reginald Matthews, Darwin Brown, Theresa Clark, Mark Matthews, Ed Devendorf, and Ted Devendorf.

He is survived by his children Scott L. (Trisha) Rossiter of Mexico, Jody J. (Jenn) Rossiter of Penfield, and Heather M. (Michael) Woolson, of Oswego. He also leaves behind cherished grandchildren Aden Renfer, Caitlin Rossiter, Madi Rossiter, Bella Rossiter, Kellan Rossiter, Hunter Woolson, Alisha Rossiter, and Wyatt Woolson, his siblings, Judy House, Michael Matthews, David Matthews, Connie (Daryl) Bertollini, Timothy Matthews, and Mary (Dan) Parrish, and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Seneca Hill Manor for the kindness and compassion they showed while caring for both Patrick and Janet.
